ROOFING WARRANTY – EVERYTHING YOU NEED TO KNOW

What Kind of Warranty Do You Get with a New Roof?

Every new roofing system installed by Perfect Exteriors includes two fully integrated warranty layers: a 30-year labor guarantee covering installation errors and a registered GAF manufacturer warranty covering certified component failures.

As a credentialed installer authorized under the GAF Master Elite® program, we qualify eligible projects for enhanced protection tiers such as the Golden Pledge® Limited Warranty, which includes 50 years of coverage on shingles and 25 years on workmanship (under GAF terms).

All manufacturer documentation is filed on your behalf at project completion, ensuring uninterrupted eligibility.

From day one, your coverage is verified, traceable, and enforceable – no registration gaps, no post-install surprises.

WHAT IS COVERED BY THE ROOFING WARRANTY

Warranty protection applies to two distinct failure categories: installation workmanship and manufacturer-certified material defects.

Labor-related coverage includes issues such as improperly fastened starter strips, misaligned nail zones on architectural shingles, unsealed step or counter flashing, and inadequate intake/exhaust ventilation design resulting in moisture intrusion.

The GAF material warranty applies to manufacturing failures, including premature asphalt shingle cracking, granule shedding below ANSI/ASTM standards, sealant bead failure on ridge caps, and underlayment delamination.

This dual-layer coverage ensures that both system assembly errors and component-level defects are addressed under the appropriate claims path.

WHAT'S NOT COVERED BY THE ROOFING WARRANTY AND WHY IT MATTERS

Warranty coverage does not extend to acts of nature such as wind-driven hail, ice dam backflow, fallen tree limbs, or wind uplift exceeding manufacturer-rated tolerances – those are typically handled through homeowners’ insurance policies.

Exclusions also apply to cosmetic degradation (e.g., UV-induced shingle fading, algae staining), unauthorized structural modifications (such as aftermarket solar panel mounts, satellite dish penetrations, or third-party vent installations), and deterioration resulting from deferred maintenance.

The warranty is specifically limited to installation-related failures and manufacturer-confirmed material defects, not age-related wear or storm-related damage common to Minnesota’s freeze – thaw climate.

WHAT ABOUT LEAKS?

If a leak originates from installation-related causes, such as unsealed step flashing, improperly lapped valley membranes, or misaligned exhaust vent penetrations, we dispatch a repair crew to diagnose and correct the failure under our labor guarantee.

If the source is product-based, like granular loss in laminated shingles, underlayment delamination, or defective ridge vent assemblies, we initiate the claim process directly with GAF, ensuring documentation aligns with warranty coverage terms.

Regardless of origin, you contact us once and we handle the resolution.

HASSLE-FREE CLAIMS HERE'S WHAT THAT ACTUALLY MEANS

Roofing warranty claims often fail because homeowners are forced to navigate between manufacturers and installers without clear responsibility.

We eliminate that. If your issue involves an installation failure – such as improper fastener patterns, misaligned ridge cap shingles, unsealed flashing intersections, or ventilation miscalculations—we handle inspection, labor, and resolution directly.

If the problem stems from product failure – like premature cracking in HDZ® shingles, blistering underlayments, sealant delamination, or thermal splitting, we document the defect, verify eligibility under GAF’s system warranty terms (e.g., Golden Pledge® or System Plus), and coordinate all correspondence and claims processing with GAF.

No call center loops, no interpretation of fine print – we serve as your claims handler from inspection to final repair or material replacement.

ROOFING WARRANTY MAINTENANCE REQUIREMENTS

Maintaining warranty eligibility requires adherence to basic roof care protocols.

This includes seasonal gutter cleaning to prevent water backflow, removal of organic debris (leaves, branches, moss) from roof valleys and eaves, and prompt remediation of visible surface damage following major weather events.

Any structural changes involving roof penetrations, such as HVAC vent installations, satellite mounts, or skylight retrofits, must be pre-approved or completed under our supervision.

We also recommend annual roof inspections, particularly before and after winter, to document condition and identify emerging issues before they void coverage.

WHAT DOES "50-Year" or "Lifetime" REALLY MEAN

Terms like “lifetime warranty” or “50-year coverage” often refer to limited manufacturer warranties that include prorated terms and conditions.

For most asphalt roofing systems, non-prorated coverage applies only during the Smart Choice® Protection Period – typically the first 10 to 15 years depending on product and installer certification. After this period, material reimbursement declines annually.

In contrast, GAF’s Golden Pledge® and System Plus warranties extend the non-prorated window significantly, and include labor reimbursement in covered claims.

The “lifetime” label refers to the expected service life of the original homeowner, not unconditional, full-term replacement.

IS THE ROOFING WARRANTY TRANSFERABLE?

Yes, both the GAF manufacturer warranty and our workmanship guarantee are transferable to a subsequent property owner, provided the transfer occurs within the allowable time frame.

For GAF warranties, the transfer window is typically 60 days from property title transfer, and the new owner must submit the required transfer documentation.

The workmanship warranty may also be transferred once, assuming no unauthorized modifications or maintenance lapses occurred.

Transferring your warranty not only maintains coverage, but it also adds quantifiable value during resale.

STORM DAMMAGE ISN'T COVERED But We’ve Got Your Back

Roofing warranties explicitly exclude damage caused by weather events such as hail impact, wind uplift exceeding ASTM D3161/D7158 ratings, ice dam formation, and debris strikes.

These types of losses fall under the scope of homeowners’ insurance policies, not workmanship or manufacturer defect protections.

However, after a major storm, our team offers no-cost post-event roof inspections to assess for impact-related shingle fracturing, displaced flashing, water ingress, or membrane compromise.

We provide photographic documentation, scope-of-loss support, and can coordinate with your insurance adjuster to ensure all storm-related damage is properly accounted for.

Even when it’s not a warranty issue, we remain your service partner.

WHAT MOST ROOFERS Won’t Tell You ABOUT WARRANTIES

Most contractors talk about warranties only when things go right, not when things get complicated.

But homeowners deserve to understand the fine print: what happens when responsibility is unclear, how coverage gets voided, and what to expect if your installer isn’t around decades from now.

Here’s what many don’t say, but we do.

What Happens If There’s a Dispute Between Workmanship and Material Defects?

In cases where the cause of failure isn’t immediately clear, such as a leak at a step flashing transition or deterioration near a ridge vent, homeowners are often caught between the installer and the shingle manufacturer.

We prevent that by conducting a full diagnostic inspection, determining whether the issue stems from a labor-related error (e.g., fastener overdriving, insufficient sealant application) or a material defect (e.g., asphalt delamination, factory blistering).

If it’s ours, we fix it. If it’s GAF’s, we initiate the claim and manage correspondence.

Can You Accidentally Void Your Warranty Without Realizing It?

Yes, warranty coverage can be voided if specific terms are breached.

Common causes include unauthorized roof penetrations (e.g., satellite dish brackets, solar panel footings, bathroom fan vents), use of non-GAF accessory products in a system installation, or application of improper cleaning methods like high-pressure washing that compromises granule adhesion.

Failure to maintain ventilation balance, remove debris from drainage planes, or address active moss/algae growth can also trigger exclusions.

We strongly recommend consulting us before any structural or cosmetic modification to the roofing assembly.

What Happens If Perfect Exteriors of Minnesota Isn’t Around in 20 Years?

In the unlikely event that Perfect Exteriors ceases operations, your GAF manufacturer warranty remains in full effect.

All warranty registrations, including Golden Pledge® and System Plus, are logged directly with GAF’s national warranty registry, not tied to the contractor’s continued existence.

Additionally, your workmanship guarantee is documented in our internal CRM and can be referenced by successor firms or qualified GAF-certified contractors if transfer of service becomes necessary.

You retain full access to material coverage, and in most cases, labor support can be reassigned within GAF’s contractor network.
